The "Monteverde book," as this is destined to be known, takes its place on the shelves as the companion volume to the "La Selva book" [McDade et al., ; see The Cutting Edge 1(2): , Apr. ]. As the latter volume, the "Monteverde book" is edited and written by biologists and other workers with an intimate field knowledge of the site. We glean just one item of passing interest to us: this concerns the genus Prioria, long regarded as monospecific and neotropical, but recently expanded to accommodate several Old World genera [see The Cutting Edge 7(2): 6, Apr. ]. These molecular data are consistent with either viewpoint, and the authors consider this “more an issue of.

Orphanodendron is a taxonomically and geographically isolated South American genus of two species. When first described by Barneby and Grimes inthe genus was placed in Leguminosae.

The Neotropical endemic Macrolobium is one of the most species-rich genera (ca. 75 species) within subfamily Detarioideae (Fabaceae, alternatively Leguminosae).

Two sections distinguished by. The wood of Prioria, Oxystigma, Kingiodendmn and Gossweilerodendron has diffusely arranged axial canals, and these are four genera that have recently been merged into Prioria.

Bathiaea has. Research Highlights: Two novel sets of polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for Prioria balsamifera and Prioria oxyphylla through high-throughput sequencing. Validation in two populations of each species proved the utility of the developed primers to estimate genetic diversity at population level.

Background and Objectives: Prioria balsamifera and Prioria oxyphylla are tropical Cited by: 1. The Leguminosae (or Fabaceae) currently comprises genera. In most of the world's herbaria the genera are arranged by old, non-phylogenetic, classification systems which, while offering.

While several recently published floristic accounts still refer the legumes to three separate families the most recent regional account of the legumes, Leguminosae of Madagascar (Du Puy et al., ), follows the latest systematic evidence and recognises the legumes as one family with three subfamilies: Caesalpinioideae, Mimosoideae, and Papilionoideae.

A common characteristic is that the leaves are opposite, and the fruit a schizocarp.[1] The maples have long been known to be closely related to the family Sapindaceae.
